How to Design and Incorporate the Ultimate Kitchen Island

September 6, 2017 by Capitol Design

Designing and Incorporating the Ultimate Kitchen Island

Whether you’re looking to design kitchen island plans or want to remodel kitchen island setup, you need the right plan. There are many things to consider if you want to design kitchen island plans for your kitchen remodeling project. To help you design kitchen island, here are some steps you can follow from start to finish.

1. Start with the Right Space

The first thing you need to look at is the amount of space you have available. You want to go with a kitchen island that’s perfectly fit for your kitchen. Make sure that there’s enough space between the countertops and the kitchen island so that at least two people can fit stand side by side with a healthy amount of space between them. To design kitchen island into your kitchen you have to start with comfort.

2. Find the Right Style

It doesn’t make sense to renovate kitchen island. Instead, find the style that matches your kitchen. Look at your cabinets and find the right design kitchen island for that style. Installing a random style into the center of your kitchen will feel out of place and unsightly. Another idea is to design kitchen island with a style that complements your kitchen. This is more flexible and can add great contrast to a one tone color scheme.

3. Choose Your Functionality

Make sure you don’t design kitchen island without thinking about the functionality. There are very basic ones that are portable to more expensive choices that have wiring and plumbing installed. When you remodel kitchen island, you have to be thorough about what you’ll need. You can get a kitchen island that provides enough space for people to dine on, comes equipped with appliances (dishwasher, food heater, stove, etc.), adds extra cabinet space, or has extra sink/faucets installed.

4. Consider Multi-Level Setups

There’s no need to renovate kitchen island when you can add another level right next to it. Provided that you have enough space, you can attach another kitchen island to the side. A good idea is to add a portable one so that you don’t have to remodel kitchen island setup. If you don’t want to design kitchen island for multi-level functionality, there are many models that come with a multi-level setup. For example, there are islands that have a small space on the top for a few people to dine in with appliances (faucet/sink, stove, grill, etc.)on the lower level.

5. Design Kitchen Island That Fits Your Budget

The biggest limitation to a remodel kitchen island project will probably be the budget. If you have a small kitchen, then all it takes to renovate kitchen island is to look for a table (preferably with bottom shelf space) that fits your kitchen space. But if you want to renovate kitchen island with a full island, you have to look at your material options for the counter top. Some economical options include recycled glass, hardwood, laminate and solid surfacing. The expensive options are quart, granite, marble and limestone.

To design kitchen island plans, you have to consider a wide variety of options. You want to be as thorough as possible so that you don’t have to remodel kitchen island for a long time. A common mistake that you can make when you renovate kitchen island is not leaving enough space to let your kitchen space breathe. Many homeowners get obsessed with creating a large island and don’t think about how uncomfortable it is to operate in a tight kitchen corridors. So don’t think that it’s all about the surface space. Comfort, convenience and functionality are just as important.

Kitchen Technology Options to Consider for Your Kitchen Remodeling Project

July 4, 2017 by Capitol Design

Kitchen Remodeling and Kitchen Technology

A kitchen remodeling project isn’t complete without the right kitchen technology. Today, the latest kitchen technology can really add a lot of value to kitchen renovations as they allow you to do everything from save space, cook your food faster to making working in your kitchen more convenient. Here are a few kitchen technology options to consider for your upcoming kitchen renovations.

  1. Appliances and Furniture with Space Saving Features

A big part of any kitchen renovations project is figuring out how to do more with less.

One option to consider for your kitchen renovations is to get an oven with French doors. The conventional door requires a lot of space to open fully, so French doors are perfect for smaller kitchen. Another option to consider for your kitchen remodeling is an island that has multiple pull out drawers, cabinetry, hangers and wall mounts so that you don’t have to confine everything in your wall cabinetry. So if you’re kitchen remodeling project is all about making the most out of the small space you have, take a look at the space savings options that are available with appliances and furniture.

  1. Connected Kitchen Appliances

When thinking about kitchen renovations, you want to think about what’s going add convenience and safety your kitchen. That’s why connected kitchen appliances should be an important part of your kitchen remodeling plans. You’ll find everything from ovens that can be controlled from your mobile phone to appliances that sync cooking times. Appliances are now coming with kitchen technology that allows you to monitor and operate your kitchen from anywhere. This kitchen renovations approach will make cooking more efficient, easier and safe.

  1. Refrigerators with Multiple Temperate Controlled Spaces

Some people opt to have multiple refrigerators in their kitchen remodeling plans. But the latest kitchen technology will probably change these kitchen remodeling plans.

The latest refrigerators come with isolated temperature zones. Each zone in the refrigerator can have a custom temperature, so you can use it for multiple purposes whether it’s to set a temperature for thawing meat, make sure frozen foods stay frozen or keep your produce fresh. Regular refrigerators have produce drawers which only control the humidity and do not offer the temperature controls to help you get the most out of your food. Plus, your kitchen remodeling plan can do without the second mini fridge taking away space, so look for refrigerators that offer this feature.

  1. Induction Cooktops

Induction cooktops should be on the top of your mind for kitchen renovations project. There are several reasons why you should consider adding them in your kitchen remodeling project. Induction cooktops heat up faster, are more energy efficient, are safer and are more temperature precise. Many are also digitally connected so that you have complete control over the temperature and can monitor them when you’re not home. Another big selling point for adding induction cooktops to your kitchen renovations plan is that cleaning up an induction oven is just so much more easier than conventional stove ovens.

  1. Media and Device Support

One thing that homeowners forget to think about in their kitchen remodeling project is device connectivity. If you’re like many people, you want to install a LCD screen, have some way to attach a tablet to eye level or simply have a plug-in available for devices in your kitchen space. This requires thoughtful planning and installing the right setup. That’s why you should factor this in when planning your kitchen remodel or you’re going to have to go back to your kitchen renovations plan and have to change everything at the last minute.

Those are some of the kitchen technology options to consider when planning a kitchen remodeling project. You shouldn’t look at appliances after coming up with the look you want. Appliances should be a big part of your kitchen renovations as they offer a lot of functionality, impact the space and make your kitchen more convenient to work in. The only thing left to ask is: what technology will you add to your kitchen remodeling project?

Kitchen Renovations: Where to Start

March 3, 2016 by Capitol Design

So, you know that you definitely want to do a kitchen renovation, but you’re not quite sure where to start? Look no further, as this definitive guide will give you all the answers you need for planning the perfect renovation for your kitchen.

Make a list and make sketches

Kitchen renovations require proper planning. Take the time to really think and discuss with your family their requirements for a new kitchen. What are the pros and cons of the current kitchen? Are there elements that you’d like to keep?

Kitchen renovations are inherently creative processes and it can sometimes help to keep moodboards, or make sketches of your dream kitchen. You can always use these later when discussing kitchen renovations with your kitchen designer and construction staff.

Discuss construction with your family

Kitchen renovations can be very messy and time consuming. You can expect to have a construction crew sawing and drilling in your home for months if you’re doing an extensive kitchen renovations project.

Will someone be home to stay with the construction workers as they work? Which season would work best for your family to begin construction? How much construction can you really take?

Discussing kitchen renovations projects upfront can ease the stress and help you to plan the perfect timeline with your construction team.

Think about your kitchen renovations requirements

It’s easy to get overwhelmed with kitchen renovations when you think of the project as a whole. However, breaking the kitchen renovations down into smaller chunks can help you to process your needs.

First, think about your countertops. What kind of cooking do you plan on doing? Talk with your designer and see which materials would best meet your specific needs.

What kind of storage would work best for you? Do you need custom cabinets or can you use some ready-made ones for your kitchen renovations?

Go through your kitchen item by item. Take a look at the counter tops, floors, cabinets, lighting, walls, windows, sink, stove, fridge, dishwasher, etc. and make a note of any changes that you imagine taking place in your kitchen renovations.

Decide on your design and construction teams

Eventually, once you’ve done as much planning as you possibly can on your end, you may want to hire a professional kitchen designer and construction crew.

A kitchen designer will be able to help you plan your kitchen renovations in excruciating detail. They’ll also be able to help you find and purchase local materials for the best deal. And, they can liaise with your construction crew to get things done.

Together, a kitchen renovations designer and a construction team will help you to build your dream kitchen—whether than means smashing down walls, or simply putting in new cabinets.

What kitchen renovations are you planning?

Are you just looking at options at this point, or are you getting ready to get started with your kitchen renovations?
